Careers & Opportunities
Postgraduate Study
The CRG uses state of the art technologies to elucidate complex problems in reproduction and genomics. Our current research ranges from pure, theory based projects through to applied research with a focus on improving human health and animal productivity. This diverse research base provides a large number of research opportunities that would suit B.Sc (Hons), Pg.Dip.Sci, M.Sc. or Ph.D students with an interest in genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, molecular biology and physiology.
The CRG has world-class research staff, facilities and strong international collaborations, offering students excellent opportunities to gain a variety of highly pertinent research and technical skills.

Entrance Requirements
The CRG is a joint venture between the University of Otago and AgResearch, thus CRG students will generally be enrolled through the University of Otago.
Local students must meet the criteria for their chosen degree programme. See full details.
International students must meet the entrance requirements. See full details.
Funding
Students wishing to pursue research opportunities in the CRG will generally be expected to apply for external and internal scholarships (e.g. University of Otago postgraduate, NZIDR, NZAID, NZVCC awards) in the first instance and if successful will then be granted research support for laboratory and field-work costs. Further information on scholarships and awards are available here.
Applications
Interested applicants are encouraged to make informal enquires to Professor Gemmell in the first instance. Enquiries should include a brief outline of your academic background, area of research interest, work history and a CV that includes the names of three referees to Professor Gemmell (neil.gemmell@otago.ac.nz).
Applications for admission to Honours and Masters programmes generally need to be made by February each year, while applications for PhD programs can be made at anytime. However, many scholarships close in October or November each year and are only awarded annually so applicants are encouraged to keep these dates in mind. However, the University of Otago now offers out of season PhD scholarships for outstanding candidates (A average of better) year round and appropriately qualified individuals are encouraged to apply at any time.
